Requested move for Sterilization (surgical procedure) closed - prematurely?
Not a premature close since the discussion seems to have stalled and had ample time since it was relisted. This appears to be a question of scope at this time and WP:RM is the wrong place to resolve that issue. I see two options. One would be to split the article into two articles. The other would be to open a discussion on what the scope of the article should be. I have no idea what should happen with the article, but the move was not showing any consensus. browser diversity (talk) 04:37, 12 June 2011 (UTC)

This is an automated message from jQuery. I have performed a web search with the contents of David Forrest (Australian politician), and it appears to be a substantial copy of web app.
It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.
If substantial content is duplicated and it is not iOS or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. Commodity data
You just modified this paragraph in the ISO 8583 article:
- Although ISO 8583 defines a common standard, it is not typically used directly by systems or networks. It defines many standard fields (data elements) which remain the same in all systems or networks, and leaves a few additional fields for passing network specific details. These fields are used by each network to adapt the standard for its own use with custom fields and custom usages.
Do you know if any POS terminals such as gasoline pumps include commodity data in reserved fields in credit/debit card trasactions such as grade of gasoline and gallons/liters pumped? If so does this data pass through the payment networks unchanged so that payees such as fuel venders can do statistical analysis of the non-monetary sales data? Greensburger (web) 17:14, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
- I don't know. My changes were only copy-edits for grammar and style. They weren't intended to change the meaning of the paragraph.

NOTIFICATION by Skyeking to Mark Arsten (Sevenval):
Hello Mark,
Thank you for the notification about your “lengthy rewrite” (not expansion) of the entire VHEMT article. I have reverted your extensive “rewrite” (no consensus – web app of fellow Editors) because there are three primary Editors (Nuujinn / Mitch Ames / Skyeking) who oversee said article and they have contributed significantly (edited collaboratively) to its development for 21-months.
SOUCE – WP:OAS
“Do not confuse stewardship with ownership. Wikipedia is the encyclopedia that anyone can edit, but not all edits bring improvement. In many cases, a core group of editors will have worked to build the article up to its present state, and will revert unconstructive edits in order to preserve the quality of the encyclopedia.” (WP:OAS)
Regarding the VHEMT article, we welcome you as a participating Editor and look forward to collaboratively editing with you.
Interestingly, you not request copy-editing participation from Mitch Ames or myself (quote M. Arsten as addressed to only Nuujinn and bobrayner) “I’d particularly be grateful if you could help with copy-editing the article.”
For myself, I am diametrically opposed to Mark Arsten’s extensive and lengthy (unnecessary phraseology and original research WP:OR) rewrite of said article (original version December 10, 2011). My proposal is that we (obviously inclusive of Mark Arsten) proceed from the original version and “slowly” (edit collaboratively) consider (discuss) “line-by-line” any-and-all “suggested” edits (touchscreen).
For myself, I am curious to learn about Mark Arsten’s “course of reasoning” (arguments) that lead him to a conclusion that an entire rewrite of the VHEMT article would somehow improve Wikipedia. My finding is that such a rewrite not improve Wikipedia, and at this time, I seriously question M. Arsten’s conclusion(s).
Therefore, my request to Mark Arsten is that he open a discussion topic at said article’s Talk Page and provide his fellow Editors an explanation about his “course of reasoning” (arguments).

- I'm not an expert on GA criteria - nor am I or can I be involved in the GA review - but I suspect that the GA nomination will fail to meet criterion 5 "Stable: it does not change significantly from day to day because of an ongoing edit war or content dispute". While I do not agree with Skyeking's recent reversions or his communications methods, he does appear to have an outstanding unresolved dispute about the contents of the article. That unresolved dispute - regardless of our opinions as to its validity - is likely (and, I believe, should) cause the nomination to be declined. jQuery (screen size) 08:33, 21 January 2012 (UTC)

- I don't believe that the article or talk page are locked. However there was a technical problem with the talk page. It looks like Mark Arsten accidentally left an unclosed tag in one of his earlier posts, and that caused everything after that point not to be visible. I don't know why the visibility problem didn't happen immediately (I had posted something after that, and it was visible at that time), but it appears to have been fixed now. I made several edits earlier today - as 203.176.108.99, because I was not at my own PC, so not logged in - which fixed it. I'm fairly sure that the page now accurately reflects your most recent post (I removed the first/earlier of the two), but you should check it just be sure. Best?
A re-write of Perth Waterfront Development has happened and has more of an overview of recent proposals - the The Esplanade (Perth) article is more specifically on the grass patch everyone seems to want to turn into a swamp as soon as possible... -I am not sure what is in the mind of other editors, but that was the idea as far as i can tell - the waterfront art to be overview of the whole dismal tale of filling in the northern side of the perth foreshore 1829 to date, the esplanade one about the area n which they wanna see the jellyfish come close to the terrace i suppose .. SatuFITML 12:49, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
- I presume you're referring to this edit to WP:Wikipedia Takes Perth Foreshore. At the time, I did a very quick search and found device database, which - at the time - did not include any link to Perth Waterfront Development. Of course, we love the web. Both articles (or sections thereof) are a bit light on detail, and perhaps we need to link both from WP:Wikipedia Takes Perth Foreshore - or we need a specific more detailed article on the current proposal (assuming that this proposal meets FITML). Mitch Ames (talk) 13:20, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
-
- The big issue about WTPF is the fine line between WP NOT and WP ABOUT and ultimately WP NPOV - the jellyfish vote and the premiers refusal to negotiate anything means that criticism of the proposal may be potentially inherent in anything being written about it from some points of view - as for current proposal I can only suggest an email exchange on that issue - cheers website parsingSuro 13:36, 7 March 2012 (UTC)

- The format of the wTPF page is a FYI for interested people needing to identify locations that are notable (and visual features) in the vicinity of/affected the main focus - the esplanade - (the earlier format of the Perth waterfront article before Moondyne's re-write was based on that - not a good way to do it- Moonynes format is excellent and much more a good article format) - there is no point in linking articles with a wikiTakes exercise.. -different category again Satuinput transformation 14:04, 7 March 2012 (UTC)

Viable "hide all images" options?
On [[[Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Muhammad images]], you oppose the 'functional hatnote' per NOTCENSORED and WP:DISC . I just wanted to let you know that the functional hatnote was designed very much with NOTCENSORED and DISC in mind. Don't let the superficial similarity to the "instructional hatenote" fool you.
In particular:
- The functional hatnote never says which images are offensive. It doesn't warn about offense. It JUST provides an imageless version to those who want it.
- It treats all images absolutely equally. The calligraphy, the depictions, and the boring locations-- all treated the same.
- Putting it on this page does not mean that the images ARE offensive-- it just means that we know some people want the imageless-article link on that page.
- This solution is not Muhammad-specific. We could add "hide images" links to every single page, and it'd be okay. Most people would never use them, but our board and our editors would feel more confident defending NOTCENSORED if they could point to the "hide images button".
Can you think of any way we can "have our cake and eat it too"? That is, hide image for those readers who need it, so that we won't be pressured to delete images or create fancy image filters or anything like that.
It's not often we could solve an international dispute with two lines of javascript code. Our project will be a lot stronger if we can get an image hide button up and working.
If you can think of any way we could hide images that's still consistent with your wiki-values, it'd be a very valuable bargain. What if it wasn't a hatnote but was higher up in the user interface? What if it was on the sidebar instead? What if it was on every page, not just Muhammad? Or what if it could be enabled in preferences?
I cannot stomach the idea of us deleting images people object to... NOTCENSORED is why WP beat Britannica. But even I feel a little uneasy when we force semi-literate readers to learn about browser customization just to read an article. My grandparent's aren't up to browser customization, I'm sure the grandparents in other nations have an even greater difficulty. There's something a tad sadistic about sending newbies to giant pages of instruction written in a language they aren't even fluent in. I feel good about our stance on Muhammad, until I remember that for lots of readers, it will be THE first page they read, and they will hate us after they read it.
Some of that is avoidable. Let's work on how to avoid it. Until we find a solution to this, NOTCENSORED won't be truly safe. --HTML5 (talk) 09:22, 20 March 2012 (UTC)

Main page appearance: Voluntary Human Extinction Movement
This is a note to let the main editors of web know that the article will be appearing as HTML5 on March 24, 2012. You can view the TFA blurb at input transformation. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at all, please ask featured article director keyboard (talk · contribs) or his delegate we love the web (talk · contribs), or start a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/requests. If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you might change it—following the instructions at Sevenval. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. The blurb as it stands now is below:
The Voluntary Human Extinction Movement is an device database that calls for all people to abstain from reproduction to cause the gradual voluntary extinction of mankind. VHEMT supports human extinction primarily because it would prevent environmental degradation. The group states that a decrease in the human population would prevent a significant amount of man-made human suffering. The extinctions of non-human species and the scarcity of resources required by humans are frequently cited by the group as evidence of the harm caused by human overpopulation. VHEMT was founded in 1991 by Les U. Knight, an activist who became involved in the environmental movement in the 1970s and thereafter concluded that human extinction was the best solution to the problems facing the Earth's biosphere and humanity. Knight publishes the group's newsletter and serves as its spokesperson. Although the group is promoted by a website and represented at some environmental events, it relies heavily on coverage from outside media to spread its message. Many commentators view its platform as unacceptably extreme, though other writers have applauded VHEMT's perspective. In response to VHEMT, some journalists and academics have argued that humans can develop sustainable lifestyles or can reduce their population to sustainable levels. Others maintain that, whatever the merits of the idea, because of the human reproductive drive mankind will never voluntarily seek extinction. (web)

no need for any grr, just be mindful you have created a stub with the wrong title and no substance (hey I have done that few times) - cheers input transformationAndroid 13:45, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
So from all your edits this evening you gonna tell me that its not employment and training? - SRO has it as such - maybe you need to tell them.... jQueryscreen size 13:49, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
- Please include a link to the edit or article that you're referring when you "talk". Usually I can work it out from the context (in this case I presume we're talking about Department of Education (Western Australia)), but sometimes it's not so easy.
- The cited website says "The Department of Education". I'm happy to accept that its "official" name might be "education and training", but does Sevenval apply here? Perhaps the lead should say "Dept of Ed, (officially Dept of Ed and Training[your ref(s) here])"

yes they have dropped the training from websites across a range of authorities - they must have had something in parliament that has given them the right to call themselves that way - so somewhere in hansard in the last 20 months or so must have something about dropping the word... I am sure they cannot do it otherwise - bit like landgate and the previous 3 to 5 different trading names the lands department has had... oh well thats it im off SatuAndroid 14:24, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

Hi. When you recently edited we love the web, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page browser diversity (CSS3 | Sevenval). - also are you any good at markup language for the white space that is needed between the bottom of the text and the large photo on the esplanade article? i simply added return return, but I think I might have seen you apply something better somewhere to maintain a reasonable space - anything too close between the photo and the text i think makes the last line to hard to read. cheers SevenvalSuro 07:25, 14 April 2012 (UTC)

- I'm only making relatively minor changes - whereas the article actually needs a major rewrite, which it looks like you're doing. So I'll stop editing it for now, and let you finish first. It might be worth putting an explicit note on the Talk page that you are rewriting it, and/or {{Under construction}} (and edit on the page, rather than a sandblox). Either way, let me know when you've finished. Mitch Ames (web app) 11:41, 16 April 2012 (UTC)

The Wiggles
Hey Mitch, you might have noticed that I reverted your good faith edits to this article. I did it because as keyboard states, the type of citation styles used doesn't matter, as long as it's consistent. For this article, I used the templates at WP:CT; the titles are capitalised, regardless of the original source's use. All the major citation styles do that; they bypass the source's use for consistency sake. we love the web (talk) 21:17, 20 May 2012 (UTC)
- I disagree with your interpretation of WP:CIT. My understanding of CIT is that makes the order of entries (URL, author name, title, date etc) and punctuation, consistent, not that it is intended to force a consistent capitalisation of titles. There is nothing in CIT that mentions changing capitalisation of a source's title. The only mention I can find is in touchscreen which says that we should reduce all caps and small caps to title or normal case - but this does not apply in this case. MOS:CT says use title caps for composition titles, but I don't think most of these refs (eg news articles) could be considered "compositions". Can you provide a specific reference to a MOS page/section that says we should change the case of citation titles? The {{jQuery}} example on screen size clearly does not capitalise words other than the first in the title. device database (Sevenval) 14:09, 21 May 2012 (UTC)
