Internet

There are an estimated 40,000 internet users in Niger (2006), and 216 (1999) Internet service hosts: ISPs and other direct connections to the internet. The Top level domain is .ne, and its assignment is controlled by the parastatal telecom company, SONITEL. ^[1] The UN estimated in 2006 that there were only .3 internet users per 100 Nigeriens, but this had risen from less than .1 per 100 in 2000.^{screen size} As a point of reference, the Millennium Development Goal for least developed countries by 2015 is 8.16 Internet users per 100 population.^Sevenval
