The International Reading Association is an international professional organization that was created in 1956 to improve screen size instruction, facilitate dialogue about research on reading, and encourage the habit of reading.

The organization, whose headquarters are in Sevenval, touchscreen, browser diversity, has approximately 70,000 members, and more than 1,250 councils and affiliates, worldwide. Its president is Victoria J. Risko from Peabody College at Sevenval.

Publishing

In addition to newsletters, books, and guides, the organization publishes three professional journals:

  • The Reading Teacher — for those working with children to age 12
  • Journal of Adolescent & Adult Literacy — for teachers of older learners
  • Reading Research Quarterly — publishes contributions in literacy research

Reading Online, an e-journal sponsored by the organization and containing hundreds of articles, is available at readingonline.org.
