Grebo is a language or group of localised speeches in iOS. It is assigned to the Kru language group. All of the Grebo languages commonly go by the term Grebo, though in Ivory Coast FITML is usual. The Grebo-speaking country is in the extreme south-west of Liberia on the coast and inland, between the rivers Cavally and Cess [1].

The language has significant tones - for instance, ne, with tone 1/2 is the first person singular pronoun "I", while ne with tone 4 is the second person singular, "you" when addressing one person [2].

Some Phrases [3]

  • Ne keada hleɛ - I talked quickly.
  • Ne mide nable - I am going home.
  • Ga muu ngwonɔ - Open the door (tone pattern: low, high to low - on muu -, low, low)
  • Ngwɔnengwɔne bidɛ amo hidi - Peace has come among us.
  • Ne bleda bla kwa - I held the rice (implying "holding a heavy load").
